Interview with Esham
WorldWideConnected.com: What have you been up to?
I have been restructuring Reel Life/ Gothom. We released a box set last year and I got my new album coming out on Devil's Night and it is called "Sacrificial Lambs." It is a double album.
WorldWideConnected.com: Every one of your twenty something albums is different. Where does this one stand?
I would say it is a cross between "KKKill The Fetus", and "Dead Flowerz."
WorldWideConnected.com: Sounds like it is some real wicked shit!
No doubt! There was a couple things I couldn't do on the previous labels I was on so I got to go back to the old ways. This is my first release is two years.
WorldWideConnected.com: Tell me about the Judgment Day Box set?
It is a five disc set plus a DVD. It has the original 1992 Judgment Day Volume one and two albums, the new release Martyr City, and Judgment Day 3, & 4 which were unreleased tracks from 1992 era. You got five albums and a DVD in a box set all together. I do it for the day-oners.
WorldWideConnected.com: Tell me more about Sacrificial Lambs?
We got 25 songs on there and we just broke it off into two discs. The album is done and the only thing I'm doing right now is trying to get all of my collaborations together. I was trying to reach out to Eminem and I got really close but I'm not sure he is over the lyrical slashing assault that I gave him so he might not come on board.
WorldWideConnected.com: At least you are showing that you are a man about it!
Well if Jay-Z and Nas can do it why cant we. If Nas burnt Jay-Z with Either I figure Eminem can get over me punishing him on the microphone. He never responded to any of my lyrical assaults. He did a couple times but clearly I won the battle. It would be a good thing for hiphop and I'm curious to see what he would do on the track. Who knows it still might happen but for now maybe he aint got over it. I thought it would be cool since me and Proof squashed our differences before he passed. Eminem aint came around the block but it's cool.
WorldWideConnected.com: You were the first rapper to put out two albums on the same day!
Yeah but the box set was really a first for rap too. When I put out A-1 Yola there was a video to every song on that album. That was a first too!
WorldWideConnected.com: A lot of people have bitten your shit over the years!
The underground and mainstream have been fighting each other for years. It is like the positive and the negative. It is like trying to put two magnets together. The mainstream takes all the ideas and what have yous from the underground. A lot of people might pretend like they haven't heard of what we were doing with the music which is cool but know every time we come out the gate we are trying to expand our horizons with each release.
WorldWideConnected.com: Your career has got to be twenty years in the making now.
Yeah and everything is really coming full circle. I think that Sacrificial Lambs is my best album yet. I had the chance to do it with out anybody in my ear or anything. I have actually out done myself on this one.
