New Edition, Next, Silk & Xscape i england
"Legendary R 'n' B acts New Edition, Next, Silk and Xscape make a one night only appearance at the Wembley Arena Pavilion as part of their Old School Tour. Celebrating twenty years in the business, New Edition head up the tour, which coincides with the release of their new album ‘One Love’ produced, amongst others, by Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs. New Edition met in Boston, with Bobby Brown featuring in the original line-up. Their first single ‘Candy Girl’ was a number one hit, whilst subsequent singles solidified them as a teen pop phenomenon. In 1984, they released their second album which featured the hits ‘Mr. Telephone Man’ and ‘Cool It Now’. When Bobby Brown left the band to go solo, Johnny Gill was recruited to help produce the fifth album ‘Heart Break’. Soon after, all the members of New Edition decided to branch out and try different things. But they don’t regard ‘One Love’ as a reunion album. ‘It feels like a reunion to the public,’ says Ronnie, ‘but we never considered ourselves broken up. We might have separated. But, we never got the divorce!’ Just six months after their debut album ‘Rated Next’ was released in late 1997, Next topped the singles charts with the smooth soul of ‘Too Close.’ Composed of brothers T-Low and Tweety plus R.L., the R&B trio formed in Minneapolis after the brothers met R.L. through their uncle, the director of a gospel choir. The trio developed a sexy soul sound akin to Barry White and late-period Marvin Gaye. Next celebrated their success with a slot supporting Boyz II Men on their huge summer tour. Silk reign as one of the most compellingly consistent groups in R 'n' B. In less than a decade, they have helped change the face of harmony-driven music, combining street cred with vocal intensity achieved by only a handful of stars. The LA lads issued their debut LP ‘Lose Control’ in 1992 and have excited audiences with their engaging harmonies and suggestive lyrics. The single ‘Freak Me’ was a huge hit in 1993. Female R 'n' B quartet Xscape enjoyed success with their debut album, Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha. The LP broke into the Top 20, thanks to the number two hit ‘Just Kickin' It' and later hit platinum. 4 amazing bands… one awesome night of old school R 'n' B greats."
