"Grammy Award-winning R&B artist Michael Eugene Archer, better known as D'Angelo, was arrested early Sunday morning by Chesterfield County police after a traffic stop.
Archer, a Richmond native and a Midlothian resident, was pulled over at 4:10 a.m. in the 3100 block of Polo Parkway, where he was charged by county police with driving under the influence of alcohol. A subsequent search yielded "what we believe to be cocaine and marijuana," said Capt. Karl Leonard of the Chesterfield police.
The substances will be sent to state laboratories for analysis, Leonard said.
Along with the drunken-driving charge, the artist was charged with possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance, a felony. The drunken-driving charge, the singer's first, is a misdemeanor."
